Destiny | Become a Legend in Your Queendom
Destiny is Happening Now
Every moment of your life is laying the path to your future. Once John Lennon said, "life is what happens while you are busy making other plans."
When we spend our lives waiting for someday and tomorrow, we miss the power of TODAY. Consequently, each action you take in your business today creates the path for tomorrow's legacy. Specifically, INTENTION is likely the most powerful weapon in your arsenal. When you operate intentionally, a distinct roadmap is created.
In order to create intention, ask yourself these questions:
Why Isn't Just for Apple or Simon
You've seen them around; the company motto prominently displayed on the wall.
Founders erect a plaque to remind themselves, their employees and the people they serve, why the company exists. Yet, you'll rarely find a work at home woman who has invested time in thinking about - and declaring - her long-term reason for building a business from home.
On the short term, you may have begun your business to add a few extra dollars to your household budget. You may need or want something for yourself - separate from family responsibilities. Perhaps you got ousted from your traditional job and don't know what else to do. You may have a "this is just temporary" attitude. Or, you may be ready to change the world.
Simon Sinek, author of Start With Why and Find Your Why, famously challenges us to begin our work from WHY rather than WHAT. This perspective makes us slow down, take inventory, and consider the person we are creating for, rather than our end-game hoped-for result of more income.
Whatever your reason for working from home, I want to ask you, have you thought about your Legacy?
Destiny and Legacy
Destiny comes from an ancient word which means to make firm or establish. Oddly, in modern times the word has taken on a sort of mythical, mystical quality, as if only the fortunate few have a destiny. As a result, we don't often talk about destiny as an expected, established, certain event.
Some will say we create our own destiny - and others say we have no choice in the matter. I come from the point of view that it's a little of both. We can begin our life with a natural destiny if the course of events don't change. And, we have a destiny based on how we interpret and react to life's events.
Two people, in the same household will experience the same event in two entirely different ways. One will become a victim to the situation. The other will become a victor and survivor. What is the difference? Is it destiny or decision?
Decision or Destiny?
Can I get real for a minute? I mean, really gut-honest? I have struggled a lot in building a successful work from home business. There have been times I wished I could just give up, throw my hands in the air, and go back to a 9-5. Almost any entrepreneur worth their salt will tell you the same thing.
However, I want a legacy of victory and success, not for myself, but for my children and their children. For this reason, I MUST prove to them that if you have a vision in your heart, and you do the work, it will come to pass. In order for that to happen, I had to make a decision to keep moving forward. Consequently, every time I hit a road bump, or fell into a ditch, I knew there were greater reasons than just me to keep on going.
I want a legacy for women who are struggling to create a successful business from home. In other words, if I prove an ordinary woman, born in the panhandle city of Amarillo, Texas, who grew up in an ordinary family in an ordinary way, can make it - they can and you can, too.
To put it another way, hopefully my legacy declares, "Your destiny isn't mediocre, because YOU aren't mediocre, no matter where you start. Your legacy can become legendary."
You, Me and the Other Person
Destiny doesn't show up alone. It shows up dressed as someone and something you weren't expecting. And for that reason, I always say:
If you can reach your dream on your own, your dream is too small.
Frequently, you have to open up the doors of your dream and let someone else in.
As a result, if you want to build a Legendary Legacy...
and, if you REALLY want to Rule Your Realm and Expand Your Queendom...
you'll need to develop strategic alliances and expand the borders of possibility.
The right strategic partners create opportunities to exponentially grow your business. Rather than your 1,000 - 5,000 or 10,000 audience members, you now have access to the audience of your partners. Additionally, you borrow their credibility so you are better able to develop a wider customer base. And in return, you lend your credibility to them as they speak to your clients or customer. To put it another way, David Hume said, "Your corn is ripe today; mine will be so tomorrow. 'Tis profitable for us both, that I should labour with you today, and that you should aid me tomorrow."
For instance, who do you know who serves the same market of people you do? As an illustration, if your audience is couples transitioning from apartment living to home ownership, who else would have services or products for that market? I'm sure you can come up with a handful of ideas with just a bit of brainstorming. These are the people you want to consider as strategic alliance partners.
Whether you create an online summit to educate, develop a joint venture partnership to promote products or services, or coordinate a live event - when you work with a partner, the impact is greater. And a greater impact paves the way to Legendary Legacy.
What Does It All Mean?
When you get clear on the fact you are already creating destiny, you must then decide what kind of legacy you want to create. And remember, it all begins with WHY.
