Mary or Martha? What’s Your Business Style?
You Have a Business Style
We all approach the daily operation of business in a different way. And that's cool. Your business style is how you approach the responsibilities of the day. Some people are calm and focused. Some run into the day with a list longer than their arm.
Yet, sometimes our "style" hurts us more than it helps. Is chaos and stress your daily environment? It's likely you get overwhelmed and forget to pay attention to the most important tasks, projects and responsibilities that actually move business ahead. Or, you may procrastinate because it just feels like too much stress!
You might be familiar with the story of Mary, Martha, and Jesus. But I bet you didn't think it applied to your business, did you?
Here's the thing: 2 sisters, a bunch of work to do. Martha was a bit cranky because Mary settled in to hear what Jesus had to say. So, Martha went right to Him and said, in effect, "Can't you make Mary help me???"
"“Martha, Martha, the Lord replied, “you are worried and upset about many things. But only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, and it will not be taken away from her.”" Luke 10:41-42
There are a lot of things which require your attention every day. And, when you run a business from home, you can feel frazzled. The best thing is to identify the MOST IMPORTANT ACTIVITY that will move your business forward and do THAT first.
As a solopreneur, you're the gal who has to get it done. So one day it might be sales calls, and the next business accounting. When you have a clear direction, you can keep your hands on the reins of the business, do the important stuff, experience more calm, and still enjoy your work.
So, Martha - choose the good part. Be more like Mary. Identify the most important task and get that done first. Then, choose another.
